.KEY MESSAGES...
1. Elevated fire weather conditions for Northwest Kern County
this afternoon due to low RH around 20 percent and stronger wind
gusts near 30 MPH.

2. Temperatures near season averages across the region today
before a gradual warm up into the triple digits later this week.

3. Low RH values 15 to 25 percent will stretch across much of
the San Joaquin Valley and Sierra Nevada with values 5 to 10
percent in the Mojave Desert. RH will decrease over the region
later in the week with warming temperatures.

&&

.DISCUSSION...
An upper level are of low pressure has made it to the central
California coast where it is expected to remain mostly
stationary through late Tuesday. Meanwhile, an area of high
pressure continues to strengthen over the Four Corners region.
The two synoptic-scale areas are anticipated to cause overall
flow across central California to track out of the southwest,
resulting in near average temperatures, but increased winds in
the lee of the West Side Hills and Tehachapi Mountains and in
typical wind-prone areas. These winds will combine with
seasonably low RH values around 20 percent to result in
conditions favorable for elevated fire danger, especially in
places such as west of Lost Hills and at Lake Isabella.

The aforementioned low is expected to lift into northern
California on Wednesday, allowing the ridge of high pressure to
slide westward over central and southern California. The
increasing pressure will cause temperatures to warm across the
region, with a moderate to high probability (40 to 70 percent)
to reach over 100 degrees on Thursday and a high probability (75
to 95 percent) for Friday. The rising temperatures will cause a
decrease in relative humidity, with much of the San Joaquin
Valley and Sierra Nevada having between 10 and 20 percent RH
values; Kern Desert values are expected to remain in single
digits through the forecast period. However, the subsiding air
aloft later in the week will cause a decrease in winds in the
valley areas, and mainly diurnal and terrain driven winds in the
foothill, mountain, and desert areas.
